Cabin Sole Project

Here are some before and after pictures of the cabin sole project.  You can clearly see that the inlays were starting to separate from the underlying plywood and in some instances the (the inlays) were proving hazardous to Captain and Crew strolling about the cabin barefooted.  My thought process was to add an additional hatch in the sole to gain access to more space and while this certainly allowed for more access, I seriously doubt that the amount of storage accessed was worth the cost of the new hatch.

Finally, I had a huge internal discussion over what materials to use for the new sole.  It took me a while to decide, but finally, I decided to put down a synthetic product called PlasTEAK (www.plasteak.com).  It is maintenance free and to my eyes, just a pretty as the original.  No fuss, no muss and totally non-skid.  I know some will argue the point, but hey, its my boat.  To the casual observer, I doubt they can tell the difference anyway.
